The Quick Brown Dog is the journal of Hagley Writers’ Institute.
Over the years, it has featured the work of many up and coming and established writers including Michalia Arathimos, Laura Borrowdale, Victoria Broome, Marisa Cappetta, Rose Collins, Jeni Curtis, Melanie Dixon, Fiona Farrell, Nod Ghosh, Bernadette Hall, Jenna Heller, Gail Ingram, Teoti Jardine, Erik Kennedy, Sue Kingham, Marie McGuigan, Frankie McMillan, Isabelle McNeur, James Norcliffe, Vivienne Plumb, Joanna Preston, Kerrin P Sharpe, Chris Stewart, Regan Stokes, and Toni Wi, among many others.
Edited by the Institute’s students and graduates, the first four issues featured new and established writers associated with the Institute. The fifth issue, published in 2021, featured writers from around Aotearoa for the first time.
Three limited-edition, art-print issues have established The Quick Brown Dog as a unique publication in Aotearoa. We are currently working with The Print Shop at Ferrymead Heritage Park, and Hagley Printmakers on Issue 8, to be launched in March 2026.
Many thanks to Creative New Zealand, The South Island Writers’ Association, Readers and Writers Festival Akaroa, Marie Connolly, and Hagley College for their support over the years.
